Our international association as partnership of leading horticultural regions around the world was launched yesterday afternoon in the Municipality of Westland in the Netherlands. During an engaging seminar at the World Horti Center, the Governor of Kochi (a horticultural region in Japan) signed the first Certificate of Membership. All of this took place under the watchful eye of numerous international delegations and diplomats.
Our member regions will work together to facilitate innovative solutions for global food security (for example in the fields of robotics and AI), practice food diplomacy and ensure knowledge exchange. Dozens of regions around the world have expressed an interest in joining in the coming period.
Due to climate change, population growth and geopolitical challenges, global food security is more important than ever. Mayor of Westland Bouke Arends: “Westland is putting itself on the international map with this inspiring initiative. By working together across borders, we can innovate more quickly, share knowledge and implement sustainable solutions to truly tackle that growing global demand for food together.”
In the months to come, our member regions will work together to further develop the organisation, including a multi-year strategy and an international programme of activities. The Global Alliance’s first Annual General Meeting is scheduled for 12 March 2027 in the Municipality of Colón in Mexico, following the GreenTech Americas in Querétaro.
